Strategic Communications · Executive Communications · Writing & Editorial
I’m a strategic communications leader, writer, and editor who finds the story inside complex ideas, organizations, and issues—and turns it into clear, compelling communications that help people understand what matters and why.
SELECTED WORK
DHHS Website Strategy & RedesignDigital Strategy · Information Architecture · Editorial Strategy

A comprehensive redesign of a complex municipal public health website, built around a deceptively simple question: What do people actually need when they come here?I led audience strategy, information architecture, messaging, editorial structure, and content development, working across divisions and with technical leadership to reorganize the site around the needs of the people using it.
Municipal Public Health Demonstration ModelExecutive Communications · Legislative Strategy · Policy Narrative
What would change if public health expertise were embedded more deeply in the everyday decisions of municipal government?I worked with department leadership to develop the communications and legislative case for a municipal public health model already operating in Northampton, translating a complex mix of public health practice, healthcare systems, municipal operations, law, financing, data, and research into a coherent framework for state policymakers. The resulting materials positioned the model for legislative consideration as a structured demonstration that could be authorized, evaluated, and potentially replicated.

Massachusetts Health Education Framework RecommendationsResearch Translation · Policy Communications

I authored these recommendations to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on behalf of the Strategic Planning Initiative for Families and Youth (SPIFFY) Coalition, bringing together local epidemiological data, prevention science, and years of community implementation experience to make the case for strengthening health education statewide.
Public Health Isn’t Partisan, But It Is Political — and EssentialThought Leadership · Commentary
Public health is often most visible when something goes wrong, but much of its work happens quietly, in the systems and decisions that shape everyday life. This commentary considers public health as both a public service and a civic institution—and why decisions about health, resources, and whose needs receive attention are inevitably political, even when the work itself isn’t partisan.
"In some ways, public health has taught people not to see it.Public health has spent decades telling the story of what it prevents. It prevents disease. It prevents injury. It prevents outbreaks. It prevents crises from becoming catastrophes. Those contributions are real, and enormously important. But prevention is only part of the story.Public health also builds; it builds the systems, conditions and partnerships that allow communities to be healthy, safe and resilient."
One Real Peach - Collected Essays and PoemsBook · Narrative Nonfiction

One Real Peach is a collection of essays and poems laying bare the absurd, the devastating, the hilarious, and the very real business of trying to live authentically as a mother. Capturing the early years of mothering with pitch-perfect humor, unflinching honesty, and a fierce tenderness that shines through every page.
Embedding Public Health in Municipal GovernancePolicy & Systems Strategy · Research · Long-Form Narrative
What would it look like if public health shaped not only the services a city provides, but how the city itself works?I developed this proposal for an ambitious policy and systems initiative designed to embed public health, equity, and community voice into the machinery of municipal government—from hiring and budgeting to policymaking, service access, and decision-making.The model reframes local government itself as a powerful setting for upstream public health intervention, with the potential to test and scale new approaches across municipalities.

ABOUT ME
I'm a strategic communications leader, writer, and editor with more than 20 years of experience working across public health, public policy, research, journalism, and nonprofit organizations. I like complicated subjects, big ideas, and the work of figuring out how to make both meaningful to other people. My career has included communications strategy, research and evaluation, executive and thought-leadership writing, public affairs, digital communications, nonprofit leadership, and teaching writing in higher education. Across all of it, I've been most interested in the same fundamental questions: What matters here? Who needs to understand it? And what's the clearest, most compelling way to tell the story?Writing has also always existed alongside—and often intersected with—my professional work. I'm the author of One Real Peach and More Than a Cease Fire. My writing has appeared in the Huffington Post, MassLive, the Daily Hampshire Gazette, and the Amherst Indy, and I was a monthly contributor to Feminist Homemaker, an online magazine focused on feminism, parenting, work, and culture.I live in western Massachusetts.
